NORTHERN BEACHES MOBILE WEBSITE DESIGN

Print-Aid are a printing company based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. They came to me with a functioning website that didn’t look too bad when viewed on a computer, but looked terrible when viewed on a mobile phone or tablet.

The website had been originally developed many years ago before we conceived of the idea that we would be searching the internet on our mobile phones.  Because of this, mobile-friendly design technology hadn’t been applied to the website so when viewed it on a smartphone the graphics were tiny and illegible, the navigation links impossible to read (and click) and visitors had to ‘pinch-squeeze’ their phone screen to increase the text to a readable size.  Unfortunately, a website upgrade to a mobile-friendly format is something many business owners must address as more people use mobile-devices to browse the internet.

Upon investigation, the Print-Aid had a very poor search engine ranking and was not attracting any new business enquiries. Nothing had been done to optimise the website for several years and it had simply fallen off Google’s radar.  The original website didn’t have content management functionality so the Print-Aid team weren’t able to update their website in-house.  With all these issues in mind, I ascertained it was actually more cost effective to develop a new website from scratch that make the changes required to the old website.  The development of a new website also meant I could apply important search engine criteria from the outset, giving me the assurance that the SEO was done effectively and correctly at the foundation level. Additionally, I applied a series of SEO strategies with the goal of attracting new customers.  Over time, these SEO strategies will be backed up with the addition of new content on a regular basis plus social media, all of which I will be managing on behalf of the Print-Aid team.

The benefits of upgrading to a mobile-friendly website

A mobile-friendly (responsive) website design format optimises your customer’s browsing experience  by creating a flexible and responsive web page that looks great on all devices including computers, laptops, phones and tablets.  A list of benefits include:

  • a responsive navigation menu that adapts to the device makes it easy for customers to get where they want to go quickly
  • click-to-call functionality makes it super easy for customers to contact you on the go
  • customers won’t miss your call-to-action buttons
  • interactive maps make it easy for customers to find you
  • increase your customer reach to tablet and mobile phone users
  • accessibility on all devices will increase your sales and conversion rates
  • text size adapts to the device meaning users don’t have to zoom-in / zoom-out (pinch squeeze) to read your website content
  • increases your visibility on search engines (a higher ranking means more enquiries)
  • enquiry forms are easier to complete
