I designed the original North Beachside Plumbing website back in 2006. This was long before smartphones were an everyday necessity. By 2018, this Northern Beaches plumber’s website was long overdue for an upgrade. It wasn’t mobile-friendly and was, therefore, starting to slip in the search engine rankings because it hadn’t been touched for over 10 years.
I chose to develop the new website in WordPress. WordPress powers around 30% of the world’s websites and looks fantastic on all devices including desktop computers, tablets and smartphones (iPhones, etc). Wordpress is so powerful it can be used to create everything from simple websites and blogs, e-commerce shopping carts, and even complex enterprise websites.
One of the main benefits of WordPress is that it comes with a built-in content management system (CMS). The Dashboard, or back-end of the website, is where website content can be edited, new posts created, products added, sales figures monitored, and so much more. Put simply, it’s the engine and brains behind the website. The WordPress Dashboard is mobile-friendly and can be accessed from any device including computers, laptops, tablets and mobile phones offering website administrators a huge degree of flexibility and convenience.
A long overdue SEO refresh
Part of the website upgrade included refreshing the SEO (search engine optimisation) to ensure the client retained their top Google ranking for all the relevant keywords.
Additionally, it provided me with the opportunity to undertake additional keyword research in a bid to uncover any potential niche markets we weren’t already targeting.
Local search marketing
Most of us no longer want to be restricted to our desktop computers when we need to undertake menial daily tasks, instead wanting to access the internet from anywhere and at any time.
Whether it’s making a dentist appointment, finding a local restaurant or tradesperson, or booking a plumber to fix a sewer leak, we want to do it wherever we are and when the need arises. The penetration of mobile phones, voice-activated search, smart watches and smart speakers (Amazon Alexa, Google Home, etc), offer us greater convenience. And that’s why it’s more important than ever that your business is listed in all the right places – particularly if you’re a local business trying to attract local customers.
Local search marketing such as Google Maps was also an integral part of my SEO strategy for this website upgrade. Local search is a cost-effective, high ROI way to promote your products and services to customers who live, work or are situated within a certain proximity of your business premises.
The client had also been encouraging customers to leave reviews, giving him 27 five star reviews! Just another means of boosting his search engine ranking in the local search results.
