Parlour Dala
Parlour Dala is skin clinic based in Mosman on Sydney’s Lower North Shore. When starting the business, the owner developed a WIX website herself. Since then, her business had grown significantly and the business required a website that was optimised for search engine ranking to improve its Google ranking—the solution was a WIX to WordPress conversion.
Whilst WIX is a great tool for budget-conscious start-up businesses wanting to create their own websites, in its simplicity, it can be difficult for people without search engine optimisation expertise to ensure their WIX website ranks well on Google. Additionally, as their business grows and evolves, the capability of WIX becomes limited. This is where an upgrade from WIX to WordPress is often necessary.
As of 2013, WordPress powers approximately 810 million, or 43%, of all websites globally (source colorlib). This compares to approximately 2.5% of websites globally using WIX (source w2techs).
WordPress is perfect for creating sensational-looking, mobile-friendly websites on a budget. WordPress can be used to create everything from simple websites and blogs to complex e-commerce shopping carts and enterprise websites.
WordPresses easy-to-use content management system (CMS) means the business owner can update and maintain her new website in-house. Of course, if she’s unable to do this, I am always available to assist with any website maintenance requirements they aren’t able to manage in-house.
Importantly, WordPress is very search engine friendly and, when optimised correctly by an SEO expert, should achieve a top Google ranking.
Work completed on this project
- Convert WIX website to WordPress: Develop a new WordPress website with strong calls to action and a design the conveyed an upmarket image. Add strong calls to action throughout the website.
- Basic Search engine optimisation: SEO wasn’t a priority for the Club.
- Blog: Set up a blog where they could feature skin care tips with the goal of projecting to customers their expertise.
- Website speed optimisation: For fast website download across all devices (desktop, tablet, mobile).
- Google Core Vitals: Google introduced Core Web Vitals as part of their effort to prioritise user-centric factors that affect website rankings.
- SSL certificate: Install SSL certificate and secure the website.
- Set up and provide website and email hosting.

Northern Suburbs Dog Training Club
Based on Sydney’s Upper North Shore and training at St Ives Showground each week, Northern Suburbs Dog Training Club is a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers.
Some years back, a member of the Club created a simple WordPress website for them. While the website was adequate, eventually they needed something more professional that better represented how the Club had grown, the services offered and, importantly, automated tasks that were being done manually by the volunteers.
Before starting on the website upgrade, I had lengthy conversations with the Committee members to ascertain how I could make the website intitutive for Club members. With Club membership ranging from teens to seniors, it was paramount the design and content user-friendly for all ages. Secondly, I integrated functionality that was manually being managed by the volunteers. This included memberships, FAQs, documentation, news and updates, and a range of other taks.
Work completed on this project
- Web design: Develop a new WordPress website with strong calls to action and a design the conveyed an upmarket image. Add strong calls to action throughout the website.
- Keyword research and SEO update: Undertake extensive keyword research to ascertain new and additional keywords potential clients may now be using. Update new and existing website content accordingly.
- Blog: Set up a blog where Club news and helpful dog training tips could be featured.
- Website speed optimisation: For fast website download across all devices (desktop, tablet, mobile).
- Google Core Vitals: Google introduced Core Web Vitals as part of their effort to prioritise user-centric factors that affect website rankings.

Austral Clotheslines
Austral Clotheslines NSW hadn’t had a website previously and I recently completed the development of a new WordPress website for them.
The purpose of their new website was to provide Austral Clothesline product information via an e-commerce portal. Another important feature was the integration of a stockist database so cutomers could find an Austral Clotheline stockist near them. Customers could search on any device via automatic geo location settings integrated into the website or manually by postcode / suburb / town.
A WordPress website was the best solution for this client as it offers the ability to add the functionality required and to evolve alongside the business as it grows and expands.
I provided the client with several sessions of WordPress training and they can now confidently manage the website in-house. If they’re not available to do this, I am always happy to assist with WordPress management and maintenance, if required.
A second important element of the new website was organic search engine optimisation (SEO). Achieving a top search engine ranking for the Austral Clothesline range was paramount, as well as competing against other clothesline manufacturers. I was able to source most of the content from the client but did some additional SEO copywriting with the aim of targeting more specific keywords and search phrases.
The finished result is a comprehensive website that, while it contains a lot of content, is easy to navigate. I opted for a simple structure with a cheerful design that would appeal to customers of all ages and not prove difficult for older customers to use.
Work completed on this project
- Web design: Develop a new WordPress website with strong calls to action and a design the conveyed an upmarket image. Add strong calls to action throughout the website.
- Stockist map: search feature that allows customers to find a stockist close to their geographical location (auto geo locate or manual search options).
- Product e-commerce functionality
- Keyword research and SEO update: Undertake extensive keyword research to ascertain new and additional keywords potential clients may now be using. Update new and existing website content accordingly.

Scully Constructions
When they approached me, North Shore building company Scully Constructions had a website that had been developed some years prior when they approached me. Their old Square Space website wasn’t ranking on Google and nor was it adequately representing the Scully Construction brand and the calibre of their recent building projects.
I suggested they migrate their website from Square Space to WordPress. This provides a firm foundation for their website to grow and evolve with their business. Importantly, it is Google-friendly and capable of optimising for a page 1 Google ranking for a wide range of keywords.
When it came to the website design, it was important that it clearly indicated to potential clients that the builders at Scully Constructions delivery fantastic results. To this end, the website was very visual featuring extensive photo galleries of past projects.
Work completed on this project
- Web design: Develop a new WordPress website with strong calls to action and a design the conveyed an upmarket image. Add strong calls to action throughout the website.
- Search engine optimisation: Undertake extensive keyword research for SEO to achieve a top ranking on Google for keywords used by potential customers in the client’s target areas.
- Website copywriting: Research and write content for all pages of the website. Interview the client on several occasions as part of the research process. Copy over content from their old Square Space website, update and optimise correctly for search engine ranking.
- Blog: Set up a portfolio section (blog) used to showcase examples of building projects completed.
- Website speed optimisation: For fast website download across all devices (desktop, tablet, mobile).
- SSL certificate: Install SSL certificate and secure the website.
- Set up and provide website and email hosting.

Compressed Air Technology
This client already had a website that had been designed by another website design agency. Since the original website had been designed the Compressed Air Technology (CAT Air) business had changed significantly and no longer reflected the direction the business was taking. Additionally, search engine optimisation (SEO) hadn’t been done so they weren’t visible on Google.
To save time and money I was able to duplicate their original website and simply make the changes necessary. This included :
- designing a new custom WordPress theme that reflected the direction of the business
- amending the navigation and content so it suitably displayed their products and services
- improving the calls-to-action throughout the website
- undertaking extensive keyword research and create an SEO strategy for the entire website
- changing the domain name and informing Google of the update
- installing an SSL certificate
- making the necessary updates to their Google My Business listing
Client testimonial
In 2023, I completed a new e-commerce website (online shop) for Nature’s Favourite, a florist shop servicing Sydney’s Upper North Shore.
One of the owners of the business contacted me after having a very unsatisfactory experience with their original web design company. The original website designer, whom I suspect was located overseas, clearly hadn’t bothered to acquire an understanding of the client’s business and their e-commerce expectations.
The original WordPress website used WooCommerce to run the shopping cart. WooCommerce is a powerful, highly customisable plugin that adds shopping cart (e-commerce) functionality quickly and cost-effectively to any WordPress website.
First, I created a duplicate of the website on a staging server. This left their old website live so they could continue to receive orders (although orders were very few). Next, I undertook a complete assessment of the website to uncover problems with the code, functionality, design, sale and purchasing experience, and call-to-action.
Sadly, I uncovered many problems.
One of the most concerning problems was that the delivery area was set to Australia-wide. Nature’s Favourite is a local business run by two sisters who undertake the deliveries themselves. Their delivery area is very specifically the Upper North Shore, Hornsby and parts of the Hills District. When they started receiving orders from Wollongong and Perth, they knew something was wrong and this led them to contact me for advice.
Another problem I uncovered was American spelling, not Australian English, throughout the website. This is what led me to believe the website had been delivered offshore, rather than by a local web designer. For example, throughout the website the spelling “Mom” was used instead of “Mum“. This was just the beginning…
Once I delved deeper into the content I realised that the original web design company must have simply copied and pasted information from another floristry website because their contact details and business name were still listed! As unbelievable as this sounds, it’s quite common.
The finished result was a website that represented the hands-on, personalised approach of the business owners.
I ensured that the keywords and search terms targeted their local delivery area and expanded these to include more floristry services that complimented the business with the view of attracting more business.
