Leading Edge Academics are a team of highly experienced English and Maths tutors with offices at Birchgrove in Sydney’s Inner West. As a newly established business, I was able to assist them with logo design and brand development, new website and search engine optimisation.
Website Design
As a start-up business, the website design budget was limited and a consideration for the client. I recommended developing a WordPress website as it can be done quickly and cost-effectively. Additionally, the client could self-manage the website going forward. WordPress also provides a solid foundation for the business and can grow and evolve with the business, where necessary.
Footnote: The addition of a tutoring calendar with Paypal online payment facility was added several months after the website was developed. This was done quickly and for little cost to the client.

WordPress is a website creation tool that is, I believe, the most powerful tool available to build a professional, cost-effective website that looks great on all computers and devices.
WordPress powers around 30% of the world’s websites. It can be used to create everything from simple websites and blogs, e-commerce shopping carts, and even complex enterprise websites.
The WordPress Dashboard CMS system
One of the main benefits of WordPress is that it comes with a built-in content management system (CMS). The Dashboard, or back-end of the website, is where website content can be edited, new posts created, products added, sales figures monitored, and so much more. Put simply, it’s the engine and brains behind the website. The WordPress Dashboard is mobile-friendly and can be accessed from any device including computers, laptops, tablets and mobile phones offering website administrators and business owners a huge degree of flexibility and convenience.

SEO for Google ranking
As with any new business, search engine ranking is the quickest and most cost-effective way to attract new customers FAST. Extensive keyword research gave me an insight into the keywords and keyword search phrases that were popular among potential customers to search for a business and the services provided by Leading Edge Academics. This formed the basis of the website content and determine what pages need to be included. The client provided some of the content and I amended this to improve its keyword relevancy. I also added more content written to target specific keywords.
To assist with their local search results, I also set up their Google Maps (Google My Business), optimised it for SEO and integrated it into their website.

Logo Design
When coming up with concepts for their new logo and brand, I was mindful they would be working with young children all the way up to HSC age so it was, therefore, important the logo wasn’t too cartoonish and would be representative of children aged from Kindergarten to High School ages. The logo also needed to represent professionalism to the parents and indicate the services offered.
About the client
The team of primary (years K-6) and high school (years 7-12) tutors at Leading Edge Academics are dedicated teachers who have taught across a wide range of educational environments and are experienced in delivering the skills necessary for students to excel in the areas of Mathematics and English. They offer Naplan tutoring and preparation plus an after school homework club. All Inner West tutors at Leading Edge Academics are experienced academic and pastoral mentors, enabling them to advise and support student in many areas such as organisation, structuring revision schedules, creating a suitable working environment, subject selection and more.
